Dutch international forward Anwar El Ghazi will have his contract with Bundesliga side Mainz terminated following a now-deleted social media post on the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
The former Aston Villa player was initially suspended by the club on October 17, 2023, for his post.
Following a meeting with the club on Thursday, the player was persuaded to apologize for the post against his wishes.
His response, according to reports, stated that “he stands for peace and humanity for all victims” of the war.
Sources close to the BBC revealed the player was informed his contract would be cancelled.
