Breaking News: Ruling on GFA-Palmer case postponed by CAS

Date:

The case involving the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Wilfred Osei Kwaku Palmer has been adjourned again by CAS.

The ruling has been rescheduled to September 1, 2020 by the Court of Arbitration for Sports(CAS).

A CAS statement issued on Wednesday August 5 read, “On behalf of the Deputy President of the CAS Arbitration Division, please be advised that the time limit to communicate the Arbitral Award to the parties, pursuant to Article 59 of the Code of Sports-related Arbitration, has been extended until September 1, 2020.”

This is the second time the verdict on the GFA-Palmer case has been postponed after an initial postponment on July 17, 2020.

Wilfred Osei Palmer is seeking redress from CAS after he was disqualified from competing in the GFA’s elections last year.

Osei Palmer is seeking for four reliefs, one of which could nullify GFA’s elections last year.

There were Earlier reports from certain quarters that interested parties involved in the case had been served with copies of the ruling but Mr. Osei Palmer came out to deny it.

In a statement by the Tema Youth chief, he indicated that he was waiting for CAF to announce the verdict.

“Contrary to report suggesting our lawyers received the much-anticipated ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), we wish to establish the fact that our lawyers are yet to receive the ruling from CAS,” a statement read.

“CAS has not given any reason for the delay, but we are hopeful that in due course the ruling will be sent to both parties involved.”

The Football Association was dragged to CAS by the Tema Youth bankroller Wilfred Osei Palmer over what he deemed unfair disqualification from contesting the 2019 GFA presidential election which Kurt Okraku won.
