Bolgatanga Central MP, Isaac Adongo, has labeled Ghana Premier League (GPL) match venues as “death traps,” urging urgent safety improvements.
Speaking in Parliament, he criticized the poor conditions following the fatal stabbing of Asante Kotoko fan Francis “Nana Pooley” Frimpong at Nsoatre during Kotoko’s Week 19 clash with Nsoatreman.
“I was saddened to hear that even basic first aid was unavailable. No ambulances. You have no business playing football in such conditions,” Adongo stated. He also questioned the absence of adequate police security.
With the GPL currently suspended, the Ghana Football Association has introduced stricter Matchday Safety and Security Protocols, including appointing Safety Officers, installing CCTV cameras, and imposing a GH₵20,000 fine and venue bans for non-compliance.
