BetPawa Pledges GH₵7 Million Investment in Ghana’s Top Football Leagues

Date:

Ghana’s leading betting company, BetPawa, has announced a commitment to invest a minimum of GH¢7 million in Ghana’s elite men’s and women’s football competitions.

Ntoudi Mouyelo, managing director of Mchezo Limited, the operators of BetPawa, shared this announcement during a press conference at Accra’s Alisa Hotel on November 5, 2024.

This investment will be provided through the “locker room bonus” initiative, initially created to reward players in the Ghana Premier League and now expanding to support the Women’s FA Cup. During the 2022/23 season, GH¢600,000 was distributed to approximately 4,000 players from 17 of 18 teams, with Asante Kotoko opting out.

Last season, BetPawa raised the bonus from GH¢150 to GH¢400, resulting in a total payout of GH¢1.3 million to about 3,000 players. This season, the bonus will extend to include three coaching or technical staff members per team, allowing teams to decide which staff receive bonuses for each match.

“We aim to pay at least 3,500 players this season, amounting to GH¢1.4 million. Over five seasons, we plan to invest GH¢7 million across both men’s and women’s leagues,” Mouyelo stated.

The locker room bonus, designed to motivate players to win, is awarded to all players listed on the matchday roster for games they win. This initiative is expected to greatly boost motivation and performance across Ghana’s football leagues.
