Former Scotland international Steve Nicol has hit out at Black Stars of Ghana’s captain Jordan Ayew.
Ayew won fewer admirers in Ghana’s Group L 2026 FIFA World Cup opener against Panama.
On the day he became Ghana’s most capped player, surpassing his older brother’s Andre, Jordan came under heavy criticism.
Throughout his tenure until his substitution, the former Leicester City striker struggled to make a meaningful impact in the game.
His slow-paced style of play was visibly frustrating fans and Ghana’s forward line, of which he was meant to be the anchor.
Analyzing the game on ESPN, Nicol was left bemused by Jordan’s performance, basically highlighting the Ghanaian as way past his best.
“Ayew has been a fantastic servant to Ghana. He’s had a great Premier League career when he was at Palace, but unfortunately he is past his best.
So at the end of the day when you are looking for a goal and it doesn’t come from your center forward, I don’t believe that is a good thing for any team.”
