The Communication Director at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr Henry Asante Twum, has explained why certain coaches have not been considered for the Black Stars head coach job.
Since the imminent departure of former head coach Carlos Queiroz on October 1, 2026, Ghana remains in the hunt for a new substantive head coach.
The Black Stars of Ghana endured a torrid start into the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, which has led to the serious need for a change in direction.
Speaking to journalist Fentuo Tahiru, Mr Asante Twum, who began his career as a journalist too, shared why some coaches, including Desmond Ofei and John Painstil, aren’t being considered for Black Stars technical roles.
The GFA Communication Director disclosed Ofei and Paintsil are currently engaged with the men’s U-23 and U-20 national teams, respectively, ahead of important international assignments.
The GFA, in conjunction with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Black Stars Head Coach Search Committee, on Thursday, October 15, 2026, officially announced an interim technical team led by Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjoekegren to lead the Black Stars against Somalia in November.
