2026 Commonwealth Games: Unilez Takyi Misses Out on Women’s 100m Freestyle Semi-finals

Date:

Ghanaian swimmer Unilez Takyi bows out of the women’s 100m freestyle at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after finishing second in Heat 1 with a time of 1:00.94 at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre on Sunday morning.

Despite producing a determined performance the young swimmer was unable to secure one of the qualification spots for the semi-finals when she crossed the wall behind Brunei’s H. Wong, who won the heat in 1:00.75, while Papua New Guinea’s J. Chen finished third in 1:03.13.

Despite her strong effort, Takyi’s time placed her 43rd overall out of 64 swimmers, ending her campaign in the event.

The result marks another valuable experience for the Ghanaian swimmer on the international stage as she continues to represent the country at the highest level of Commonwealth competition.

Takyi is among Ghana’s swimming contingent at the Games, joining teammates Ivan Snowden, Abeiku Jackson, and Nubia Adjei, who have also been competing across various swimming events in Glasgow.

Although she will not progress to the next round of the women’s 100m freestyle, her participation adds to Ghana’s growing presence in international swimming as the nation continues its campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
