Sixteen buildings have been targeted for demolition by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
The collapse of two buildings over the weekend—one at Adenta and the other at Avenor—has raised concerns over unsafe structures in the city.
Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Ghana’s minister for the interior, has disclosed that 16 unsafe buildings across the Greater Accra Region have been identified for demolition.
This, according to Hon. Muntaka, is to prevent further loss of life.
“Currently, NADMO has identified about 16 buildings within the Greater Accra Region that have to come down. We are going to ensure that, coming into the week, they will go and get all those buildings down.”
He further disclosed that evacuations are currently ongoing in those marked buildings.
