With Manhyia yet to announce a successor to Kyeame Kofi, here are three key reasons that contributed to his destoolment.
His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, on Monday, April 20, 2026, destooled his linguist, Kyeame Kofi Nti, over a series of allegations.
This crucial move by the Asantehene followed a meeting of the Asanteman Council at the Manhyia Palace, as issues were raised regarding the following:
1. The legitimacy of the royal lineage of Kyeame Kofi Nti, who was the mouthpiece of the Asantehene during important engagements.
2. His improper handling of ‘Ntam’ (a sacred oath with deep spiritual and judicial significance).
3. The Council considered allegations by the Ayaasehene over the alleged wrongful enstoolment of an Ayaase dikro.
All these reasons, added to reports of his failure to carry out his duties as Okyeame, were deemed by the Council as deeply inappropriate for one who occupies such an enviable office.
