Former president of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Abraham Kotei Neequaye has blamed the current board members and the National Sports Authority (NSA) for the death of popular boxer ‘Bahubali’.

Known in private life as Ernest Akushey, Bahubali died on the morning of Tuesday, September 23, 2025, 11 days after his epic defeat to Dickson, due to internal bleeding, according to reports.

Appearing to have made peace with his abrupt exit from office in the aftermath of the sudden death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju in March 2025, Mr Neequaye, pained by the death of Bahubali, whom he described as jovial, insisted the NSA and current board members of the GBA must be held responsible.

“The GBA is at fault for the death of Bahubali. He had medical issues… The NSA should’ve prevented Bahubali’s death,” said the former GBA president on Max FM’s Sports Pack.

He stated the late 32-year-old was not medically fit to engage in any boxing bout, recounting how he was once attacked by hooligans organised by the promoter of the boxer just because he requested an approved medical report during his tenure.
