ABSA BLACK STAR MARATHON: Team Meets African Paralympic President

Date:

The Absa Black Star Marathon team has paid a courtesy visit to Samson Deen, President of the African Paralympic Committee (APC), as preparations intensify for the highly anticipated race on July 26, 2025.

The meeting took place at Mr. Deen’s office in Accra on Thursday, July 17, and was led by Dr. Eric Kwame Adade, founder of the marathon. The team presented a comprehensive update on event logistics, promotional strategies, and the expected turnout for this year’s marathon.

A major highlight of the discussion was the inclusion of over 60 para-athletes, both male and female, who have already registered to compete. Dr. Adade emphasized that this milestone underlines the event’s strong commitment to inclusion, empowerment, and accessibility in sports.

“We believe sport is a unifying force. This engagement with the APC is a strategic move toward ensuring equal participation for all athletes,” Dr. Adade noted.

Mr. Deen welcomed the team warmly and praised the marathon’s inclusive approach, reaffirming his office’s interest in supporting such initiatives that empower persons with disabilities through sport.

The visit also included the formal invitation of Samson Deen to attend the marathon as a special guest, a gesture he graciously accepted.

This strategic engagement underscores the shared vision between the Absa Black Star Marathon and the APC: using sport as a vehicle for unity, social change, and visibility for marginalized groups.

As Ghana prepares to host runners from across the continent, the involvement of para-athletes promises to make this year’s event one of the most inclusive and impactful editions yet.
