‎I brought Samini to fame — Kofi Debrah

Date:

Highlife musician Kofi Debrah has revealed that he is the artist who brought Reggae/dancehall musician Samini to the limelight.‎

‎According to him, after he featured Samini on his hit track “Apuskeleke,” the ragga artist gained many opportunities and recognition.

‎Revealing this in an exclusive interview with Max Drive in Accra on Friday, the legendary singer explained that Samini who was then known as Batman approached him after an event at Kaneshie Conference Center to request for a feature.

‎”That time, Samini was a young boy who was still in Senior High School. He introduced himself to me as a ragga who was already featured on Mary Agyapong’s song so I featured him on my song, Apuskeleke and the song was a smash hit,” he said.

‎From there, Kofi Debrah said Samini gained the opportunity to work under the management of Nana King, making it a bit difficult for him to access him when he needed Samini for projects and song features.

‎”When we wanted to bring the cassette out, he didn’t want his face to appear on the cassette because at that time he was working with Nana King. Before we got him in the video and his face on the cassette, we had to pay something small to Nana King,” he added.

‎Explaining why he and Samini’s relationship drifted apart, Kofi Debrah indicated that he featured Yogie Doggy and Samini on different tracks which appeared on one album but the album title bore the track he featured Yogie Doggy which did not sit down well with Samini.

‎”I wanted to feature Samini on a particular track but he didn’t avail himself for it so I featured Yogie Doggy. Later, Samini showed up and we did a different track which all appeared on the same album.”

‎”There was a rift between Yogie Doggy and Samini so when the album title was named after the track I featured Yogie Doggie, Samini didn’t like it. But we are on good terms,” he added.
