Abraham Neequaye to resign as GBA president

Date:

Abraham Kotei Neequye has stepped down from his role as the President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).

This comes on the back of recent external pressure and reports of frail relationship with the minister for sports and recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams.

In his announcement, Mr Neequye cited personal reasons for his decision via the Public Relations Officer of the GBA, Mohammed Amin Lamptey, with the GBA elections around the corner to elect new officials.

Mr Neequaye, aka ‘Rumours’, who once referred to himself as the best ever GBA head, revealed his decision was the “best course of action” despite the difficulty of coming to terms with it.

He is set to announce his resignation formally in an official press conference scheduled to come off on Friday, June 27, 2025, at the Authority’s secretariat at 10AM.

He expressed his appreciation to the media and board members of the GBA for the support and assistance granted him during his tenure in office.

“Let me seize the opportunity to thank the media landscape for the support you offered me and my board members, especially those of us who suffered character assassination during these difficult times.”

He therefore invited all to the official press conference where he provide would “firsthand information.”
