Ernest Nuamah’s Olympique Lyonnais has been relegated to Ligue 2 by the National Directorate of Management Control (DNCG).
This is as a result of owner John Textor and football director Michael Gerlinger’s failure to convince the DNCG to quell plans of administrative demotion on Tuesday, June 24.
The DNCG confirmed the relegation of the Rhône club to the second division, pursuant to its Article 11. Lyon can still appeal this decision.
Lyon’s inability to provide the guarantees requested by professional football’s financial watchdog (DNCG) and a debt of €175 million led to their present woe.
On Sunday, John Textor signed with Woody Johnson, the owner of the New York Jets for the sale of his 45% stake in London club Crystal Palace for just over €200 million.
The French giants may have to sell a number of their major stars to replenish their coffers. Nuamah might not find his way out of the club any time soon, as he is still recovering from an injury.
