Highlife singer Kwabena Kwabena has expressed concern about how some gospel musicians are not receptive towards secular musicians.
He said the division created by some gospel musicians is rather portraying the craft of secular musicians as ungodly.
Kwabena Kwabena voiced his concerns in a media interview when he recounted how a certain gospel musician made him feel worldly after he contacted her for a gospel collaboration.
”There was one particular gospel artist – for obvious reasons, I won’t mention the name – but I believe it was a bit disrespectful. She made me feel like a worldly person. I called her personally and she told me to speak with her husband,” he said.
Her actions, Kwabena Kwabena said dent his genuine intent for his gospel-themed External Play (EP) album, “God of Restoration.”
However, he said his experience with Obaapa Christy was different.
“I would like to appreciate Obaapa Christy. When I phoned her to talk about doing a song, she made me feel she was rather honoured to do a song with me. It was so humbling, and I say thank you and may God bless her very much. I now understand why she is quite unique,” he added.
Their collaboration featured on Kwabena Kwabena’s seventh studio project, God of Restoration, marks a spiritual chapter in his musical journey while bridging the gap between secular and gospel music to promote inclusivity and respect across genres.
