2025 MARRAKECH GRAND PRIX: Augusco Para Athlete Gilbert Ampiah Wins Bronze

Date:

Gilbert Ampiah, a 16-year-old para-athlete from St. Augustine’s College, secured a bronze medal in the High Jump T44 category at the 2025 Marrakech Grand Prix, held in Morocco.

His impressive jump of 1.73 meters earned him his first international medal, a remarkable achievement that reflects his dedication, hard work, and perseverance.

Gilbert has previously set several personal bests in the high jump. In 2023, he cleared 1.60 meters at Ekumfi Atwa, triumphing over able-bodied athletes. He also jumped 1.82 meters during St. Augustine’s inter-house competition, and his most recent personal best stands at 1.86 meters, achieved at a competitive event.

Additionally, Gilbert underwent official classification from April 21 to 23, which is a necessary step for formal recognition within the para-athletics competition standards.

Gilbert’s victory in Marrakech marks a significant milestone in his career and highlights his incredible potential. His success also underscores Ghana’s growing presence in international para-athletics.

The Marrakech competition served as a qualifier for the upcoming Commonwealth and Paralympic Games, providing Gilbert with a broader platform to showcase his rising talent.
