CAF Schools Champs: Gyan, Toure to Assist Draw April 21

Date:

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that African football icons Asamoah Gyan of Ghana and Clementine Toure of Côte d’Ivoire will assist with the official CAF African Schools Football Championship draw on Monday, April 21, in Accra.

This year marks the first time Ghana will host the continental finals, which will run from April 23 to 26. The event will feature eight boys’ and eight girls’ U-15 teams competing for continental glory in the third edition of Africa’s biggest school football tournament.

Joining Gyan and Toure at the draw ceremony will be football legends Abedi Pele and Adjoa Bayor from Ghana, Robert Kidiaba from DR Congo, and Amanda Dlamini of South Africa. These legends will also support participating teams throughout the competition.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship is not only about competition; it is also about growth. CAF will run several capacity-building programs alongside the tournament to empower young African talent both on and off the pitch.

Defending champions South Africa (Girls) and Tanzania (Boys) will return to protect their titles. The prize money includes USD 300,000 for winners, USD 200,000 for runners-up, and USD 150,000 for third-place finishers, all earmarked for school development projects.

The competition is backed by a USD 10 million donation from the Motsepe Foundation, launched in 2022 to nurture grassroots football across the continent.

Participating Teams – 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship Finals in Ghana:

Girls U-15 Teams:

  • Ghana (Hosts)

  • Benin (WAFU B)

  • DR Congo (UNIFFAC)

  • South Africa (Champions, COSAFA)
