With Ernest Nuamah out for the rest of the season, the onus of carrying Olympique Lyonnaise (Lyon) through the season may solely rest on Rayan Cherki.
The magical Black Stars winger tore his anterior cruciate ligament in a recent game against Lille, which Lyon won by two goals to nil at the Stade Velodrome.
Former Arsenal versatile player Ainsley Maitland-Niles reckons “best talent” Cherki can lead the resurgent Ligue 1 side for the remainder of the season.
“He is two-footed, has no fear, keeps going and going, can get past people with such ease, such finesse,” says Maitland-Niles.
“He is now working for the team off the ball and has gone to another level this season,” he added.
Aside from Bruno Fernandes (129), Raphinha (122), and Joshua Kimmich (113), Cherki has created more chances (103) in all competitions this season.
