Forget your club, fight for your country – Asamoah Gyan

Date:

Retired Ghanaian international player Asamoah Gyan has charged the Black Stars to go all out for the country ahead of yet another crucial clash with Madagascar.

The Black Stars head into their second 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying game in the international break on the back of a dominant 5-0 win over Chad in Accra on March 21.

In recent times the commitment of some players in the Black Stars has been questioned due to their uninspiring performances, as many believe they prioritise their club side, where they earn the most over the national team. and the fear of losing their places should they suffer injuries.

The leading goal-scoring African in the history of the World Cup, Asamoah Gyan, in a team meeting on Sunday, March 23, urged the players to put in extra efforts because every professional player’s dream is to play at the World Cup.

“Let’s fight! Last time I saw players taking their legs off 50-50 tackles. Let’s forget about the club, this is World Cup. For example, when you are in your club and you don’t play for the national team, the respect for you is low. When you play for the national team, you are there. So let’s about what is going to happen at the club;, this is the national team,” he said to the players.

He further called on the leaders in the team, such as Mohammed Kudus, Thomas Partey, and captain Jordan Ayew, to inspire their teammates when the going gets tough on the pitch.
