Comic actor Seth Kwabena Kyere Karikari has disclosed that the “Koo Fori” character in Efiewura was created by the former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.
He said Koo Fori was a radio drama character who was a drunkard and was made popular after Mark Okraku-Mantey brought that image in the teleseries.
Speaking in an interview with the Max Morning Show in Accra on Thursday, indicated that he was originally cast for the role of “Okyeame” in the radio drama series aired on Radio Gold but later went for the Koo Fori character.
He said the director realised he was fit for the drunken role, and the name for the character was Koo Fori.
He stated that Mark Okraku, seeing how talented and jovial he was, decided to bring that character into the popular series, which was aired for almost two decades.
“Since I was the son of a Pentecost pastor, I never wanted to embrace that drunken role, so it took about a year before I was convinced to accept the Koo Fori role in Efiewura,” he said.
He mentioned that when his role in Efiewura was shown and was loved by many, his mother wept.
