Ghana’s Mensah Departs New England Revolution After MLS Stint

Date:

Ghanaian defender Jonathan Mensah has officially parted ways with Major League Soccer (MLS) club New England Revolution.

The experienced center-back, known for his leadership and commanding presence on the field, leaves the club after contributing to its efforts in the league.

Mensah joined New England Revolution during the 2023 MLS season, adding depth and experience to their defensive lineup. Despite his relatively short stay, the former Ghanaian international made a notable impact, providing stability at the back and mentoring younger players within the squad.

The decision to part ways comes as New England Revolution looks to restructure its squad ahead of the 2024 season. Reports suggest that both parties mutually agreed to the departure, allowing Mensah the freedom to explore new opportunities as he enters the next phase of his career.

Mensah, who has enjoyed a successful career spanning over a decade, is no stranger to MLS. Prior to his time at New England, he was a key figure at Columbus Crew, where he captained the side and led them to victory in the 2020 MLS Cup. His performances earned him a reputation as one of the league’s most reliable defenders.

The 33-year-old’s career also boasts international accolades, having represented Ghana at two FIFA World Cups (2010 and 2014) and multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. His leadership and experience have been invaluable both on and off the pitch.

As Jonathan Mensah departs New England Revolution, speculation is rife about his next destination. While some sources suggest a potential return to Europe or Africa, others hint at interest from other MLS clubs seeking to bolster their defense with his wealth of experience.

Fans and teammates alike have expressed their gratitude for Mensah’s contributions during his time at the club. In a statement, New England Revolution thanked him for his professionalism and wished him success in his future endeavors.

Wherever Mensah lands, his legacy as a dedicated and influential figure in football remains firmly intact.
