KOTOKO NEWS: Coach Ogum Steps Down from IMC Role

Date:

In a significant development at Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has been directed by His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Life Patron of the club, and the Manhyia Palace to relinquish his responsibilities as a member of the Interim Management Committee (IMC).

This decision, according to an official club statement, is intended to enable him to fully concentrate on his primary role as Head Coach.

“This decision has been made to allow Dr. Ogum to fully dedicate his efforts to his primary role as Head Coach, with a continued focus on leading the team to success on the pitch and advancing the club’s sporting objectives,” the statement read.

The directive comes at a critical time as Kotoko works towards reclaiming dominance in Ghanaian football. Sources close to the club suggest that the decision is part of a broader strategy to streamline leadership roles and improve performance both on and off the pitch.

When reached for comment, Dr. Ogum expressed his gratitude for the continued trust placed in him. “I am humbled by the opportunity to focus on what I do best—developing the players and ensuring that Asante Kotoko achieves the success we all desire. The directive from His Majesty is a testament to the importance of this mission, and I am ready to give my all,” he said.

Club insiders have also hinted that the move will enable the IMC to operate with enhanced efficiency, as the separation of duties allows for greater specialization. A senior club official remarked, “Dr. Ogum is one of the finest tacticians in Ghana, and his ability to focus exclusively on coaching is a win for Kotoko. We are confident that this decision will yield positive results.”

Fans have reacted with a mixture of support and curiosity. Kwame Badu, a die-hard Kotoko supporter, shared his thoughts: “It’s a good decision because it allows Dr. Ogum to focus on building a strong team. But we also hope the IMC will find capable replacements to handle the administrative workload effectively.”

Asante Kotoko SC remains a beacon of tradition and excellence, and this latest directive underscores the leadership of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in guiding the club’s future. With Dr. Ogum now fully focused on coaching, all eyes will be on the team’s performance in the coming matches as fans eagerly anticipate a return to glory days.
