Meek Mill to tour Ghana this December

Date:

American rapper Meek Mill has announced that he will return to Ghana this December.

His goal of returning to the country is to explore the historic slave castle in Cape Coast and many historic sites in the country.

The rapper took to his X account to share his intent, expressing a strong interest in learning more about the transatlantic slave trade.

“I might come back to Ghana this winter… If so, I’m trying wheelie all the way to the slave castles! I need to go see that,” he posted, referring to his desire to visit the symbolic landmarks tied to the history of slavery.

Meek Mill, who first visited Ghana in December 2022 to perform at Afro Nation, expressed his admiration for the country and its rich culture.

During his initial trip, he met with President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House, the seat of Ghana’s government, where he filmed portions of a music video, sparking a debate among Ghanaians.

Earlier this year, Meek Mill hinted at a deeper connection to Ghana by expressing interest in obtaining Ghanaian citizenship.

On March 4, 2024, he tweeted his desire to become a citizen, citing issues of racial oppression in America.

“I want to get citizenship in Ghana!!!! America made to tear Black men down if you don’t follow orders!” he wrote.

Meek Mill’s upcoming visit would mark another step in his continued bond with Ghana, as he sought to deepen his understanding of the country’s history and heritage.
