MUSIGA to launch a streaming app for Ghanaian Music

Date:

The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bessa Simons, has revealed that his outfit is working around the clock to launch a new streaming and downloading app that will project only Ghanaian songs.

According to him, that platform will increase and boost musicians’ earning abilities on digital platforms.

Bessa Simons made this known during an exclusive interview with Max Drive in Accra on Tuesday.

“Now if you’re searching only Ghanaian music, where are you going to find? We are working tirelessly to produce an app that will only project Ghanaian songs for streaming and downloading. So if you’re in China searching for Ghanaian music, you will find it to download any Ghanaian song,” he stated.

The Veteran Highlife musician indicated that the Ghanaian Music streaming app would help all Ghanaian musicians to accrue wealth from that digital platform.

He also announced that MUSIGA was working in collaboration with the Ghana Music Right Organization (GHAMRO) to provide a digital system that would enable musicians to record a song for downloading.

The system, Bessa Simons said, was designed to enhance transparency and to cut out every human error in the distribution of money.

“We have worked with some individuals very close to the end. Everything is radial; it will soon be launched. Everyone will say, Wow! This is where the business is. Every musician will go to the studio to record because this is designed for only Ghanaians.”

“As a musician, you will only have to register. When you upload the song and you’re a GHAMRO member, the system will split the funds of all stakeholders involved in the creation of the song for the musician, author, publisher, arranger, and producer to gain his or her agreed percentage of funds from that song,” he said.

Bessa Simons maintained that those digital initiatives designed by MUSIGA would uplift musicians’ work and also increase membership in the union.
