2024/25 GPL SEASON: Hearts of Oak set to part ways with 14 players- Sources

Date:

Hearts of Oak are undertaking a major overhaul as they prepare to release 14 players ahead of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, according to a report by Graphic Sports.

Among those set to depart are Congolese players Glid Otanga and Linda Mtange, who joined the club two seasons ago but fell short of expectations, prompting their release.

The reasons for the exits vary; some players have secured deals with other clubs, while others are being transferred due to their inability to make a significant impact on the team.

Salim Adams, recently back from a stint with FC Cincinnati in the USA, has signed with Sudanese side Al-Hilal Omdurman. Influential midfielder Ibrahim Salifu opted not to renew his contract and has moved to FC Drita in Kosovo.

Additional departures include Enock Asubonteng, Nurudeen Abdul Aziz, Evans Adomako, Issa Kuka, Zakaria Yakubu, and Levetius Arthur. Goalkeepers Richmond Ayi and Richard Attah, along with Kwadwo Osei Bonsu, Sherif Shuab, Thomas Winimi, and captain Kofi Agbesima, are also on their way out.

This significant reshuffle forms part of Hearts of Oak’s strategy to fortify their squad for the upcoming season. The club is focused on injecting fresh talent to enhance competitiveness in both domestic leagues and international tournaments.

Following a recent 2-1 defeat to Asante Kotoko in the Democracy Cup, Hearts of Oak are gearing up to face Heart of Lions in the 2024 Homowo Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium.
