Sing-a-thon: Afua Asantewaa takes Rex Omar on for leaking her songs

Date:

Afua Asantewaa Aduonom, a lady set to challenge the Guinness World Record for longest singing marathon, has condemned the Board Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), Rex Omar, for posting confidential information about her sing-a-thon to the public.

She expressed her displeasure after Rex Omar released the list of songs she would sing at the competition on his Facebook page.

It could be recalled that the legendary Highlife singer stated in a recent interview with GTV that GHAMRO had not received any information from the young lady to protect the rights of member musicians whose songs might be part of the songs Afua would sing as part of her competition.

He stated that GHAMRO could stop Afua’s sing-a-thon competition if she failed to do the right thing before the marathon.

In light of this, Afua and her team submitted the list of songs to GHAMRO, to which Rex Omar posted on Facebook, commending her for doing the right thing.

However, his actions did not go down well with the young, determined singer, compelling her to react to the post.

“This is supposed to be a confidential document for your outfit, so why is it public, sir? This is unacceptable,” she said.

Rex Omar immediately pulled down the post; however, his actions sparked lots of comments on Facebook, as some aggrieved Ghanaians called him a dream killer and said he was doing less to support youth who were determined to achieve something for the country.

The “Abiba” hitmaker then did a video to clear public perception about him and apologized to Afua, stressing that he only wanted to protect the rights of musicians and had no ill intentions.

Afua has been the subject of discussion since she announced earlier this month that she was preparing to break the record for the longest singing marathon, Guinness World Records, set to begin on Sunday, December 24 to Wednesday, December 27 at Akwaaba Village, near Hajj Village.
