MAX ENTERTAINMENT: Afua Asantsewaa appeals for musicians’ support

Date:

Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, a singer and entrepreneur who is currently attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual, has called on musicians in the country to collaborate with her to break the records.

She said some local trending songs had lyrics she could not comprehend, thus making it difficult for her to sing along.

Speaking in a media interview, Afua, who expressed joy seeing reggae and dancehall musician Shatta Wale promote her bid for the marathon, said she had an interest in singing some of his dancehall tracks but could not speak the patois.

“I cried when I realized Shatta Wale was in support of my singing marathon and said he was praying that he could make it to the venue on the day. I want to tell Shatta that he should send me his patois lyrics; I’m finding it difficult to get the words right,” she added.

Afua noted that the opportunity she has gained would help her promise Ghana’s indigenous music to the world and that she needed musicians to support her.

A singing marathon refers to a continuous singing performance by an individual for an extended time without any breaks.

The singing marathon is going to focus on Ghanaian music from all genres, and that is what Afua Asantewaa hopes to achieve.

She will be performing non-stop from December 24 to 27 in Accra, Ghana, and she aims to sing for 117 hours or more.

The current record holder, Sunil Waghmare, accomplished the feat in Nagpur, India, from March 3 to 7, 2012, by singing a diverse selection of popular Indian songs with no repetition within four hours.
