GPL: Hearts of Oak appoints former Kotoko assistant David Ocloo as interim coach

Date:

Accra Hearts of Oak SC, a dominant force in the Ghana Premier League, has formally announced the appointment of interim coach David Ocloo.

The Phobians have issued a statement confirming the appointment of the former Liberty Professionals FC manager.

After three losses in the 2022–23 Ghana Premier League, Hearts of Oak fired head coach Samuel Boadu and his coaching staff.

Under Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, he served as the Porcupine Warriors’ assistant coach for the 2021–22 Ghana Premier League season.

Initially designated as the assistant manager, David Ocloo will temporarily take over as the coach.

Hearts of Oak will likely hire a new manager to round out their new technical staff.

From 2019 until 2021, David Ocloo, 38, led Liberty Professionals as their head coach.

Ocloo is a certified A, B, and C coach by the CAF. He has served as the manager of teams including Liberty Professional, Wa All Stars (formerly Legon Cities), Sahel Sporting Club, and Asante Kotoko in addition to Maranatha FC in Togo.

He is a skilled video analyst as well.

The Auroras, a youth team for Hearts of Oak, are led by Samuel Nii Noi.

He has served as the club’s temporary coach twice. After Kosta Papic was fired as head coach in 2021, he first took over, guiding the team to two victories and a draw in three games.

Richard Oppong participated in sports for the Right to Dream and Red Bull Academies.

He had a placement at the Etihad and Red Bull Salzburg following his goalkeeping coaching degree.

Richard Oppong Goalkeeping Centre, his own goalkeeping training facility, is located in Aburi, Eastern Region.

Lawrence Ati-Zigi, the current goalie for the Black Stars, benefited from Richard Oppong’s guidance.

The 35-year-old has experience working with a variety of neighborhood clubs, including Tema Youth FC, Vision FC, Right To Dream, Inter Allies, and a number of others.
