Jia and David arrived in San Victorino for their project. Jia went to look for a signal to call Kai and David went with her because he wanted to check on Dana. When they were gone from their group, Jia was attacked by someone.
David tried to save her by fighting the men off but he was abducted together with Jia.
Jia’s friends noticed that she and David had been gone for too long and started to worry.
They called Kai to tell her about it, and she informed Adam. Later, the kidnappers called Adam demanding for 100 million in exchange for Jia. Adam immediately had the money prepared and left for San Victorino. Lucy was not happy to hear that they would be paying for the ransom.
Back in San Victorino, David and Jia tricked the kidnappers by offering to give them 10 million. They untied David and he was able to fight them. He later untied Jia and the two of them fled. The kidnappers soon caught up with them but Adam arrived with the police. David sustained a gunshot wound but they were eventually saved and the kidnappers arrested. Adam did not have to pay the ransom so Lucy was glad. Jia visited Adam at the hospital and thanked him for saving her.
David went to visit Dana as soon as he was discharged but she suddenly got a fever. She had to be transferred to the ICU because of it and Lucy blamed the situation on David. She therefore asked Adam not to let David see Dana. David and Helen overheard Lucy saying it on the phone. David excused himself while Helen told Lucy not to look down on her son.
David complained about Lucy to Jia and asked how she managed to handle Lucy’s attitude. To get his mind off things, David offered to help Jia with her next project. The two of them spoke regularly on the phone, making Kai worry.
Kai questioned Jia about her relationship with David but Jia said it was only related to work. She however noted that she was starting to have feelings for him so she started to ignore David’s calls. David complained about not being in contact with Jia to his friend and he noticed that David seemed quite affected.
Adam told Lucy that he was going to get Jia promoted to project head. Lucy maintained that she was not yet ready and that Adam would regret giving her more responsibilities. Adam said Jia would learn by making mistakes.
