The sole country seeking to host the World Cup in 2034, Saudi Arabia, has formally submitted its bid.
In October, only hours before Fifa’s deadline for declarations of interest, Australia withdrew from the race, leaving the Oil-rich Kingdom as the only bidder.
Later this year, a Fifa congress will confirm the hosts.
Yasser Al Misehal, president of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (Saff), claims that the nation’s “rapid transformation” is the only reason the candidacy is feasible.
Al Misehal added: “Telling our football story to the world is of massive importance.
“We’ve made unprecedented progress in both the men’s and women’s game and our bid is an open invitation to the world to join us on this exciting journey.”
