2026 MOROCCO QUALIFIERS: Black Queens to Face Rwanda or Egypt

Date:

Ghana’s Black Queens are set to face either Rwanda or Egypt in the second round of qualifiers for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Head coach Nora Häuptle and her team will aim to secure consecutive WAFCON appearances after qualifying for next year’s edition.

The path to Morocco 2026 will see 38 African nations battling for 12 available slots, joining host nation Morocco, who automatically qualify for the tournament. This marks the third consecutive time Morocco will host Africa’s premier women’s football competition, highlighting the North African country’s growing influence in women’s football.

Ghana, ranked among Africa’s top teams in the FIFA rankings, is one of six nations exempted from the first round of qualifiers. The other exempted teams include South Africa, Zambia, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, and Cameroon. This advantageous position allows the Black Queens to begin their campaign directly in the second round.

Their opponent will be decided from the first-round clash between Rwanda and Egypt, adding intrigue to the second-round fixtures. The qualifiers will feature two rounds of home-and-away matches, promising thrilling and competitive encounters across the continent.

The first-round fixtures are scheduled to take place between February 17 and 26, 2025. Ghana will then enter the fray during the second round, set for October 20 to 28, 2025. With a strong squad and growing momentum, the Black Queens will look to overcome their opposition and book a ticket to Morocco 2026.
