2026 FIFA WC QUALIFIERS: Dwamena would’ve been the first Ghanaian at Brighton – Chris Hughton

Date:

Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has shared that it would’ve been a proud moment to have signed the late Raphael Dwamena at Brighton while he was in charge of the club.

The former Brighton coach, while in a pre-match presser, recalled that when he had led Brighton to the top tier of English football, he tried to sign the Ghanaian to beef up his squad.

FC Zurich had agreed on a fee with the English club, however, the deal fell through due to a heart condition during his medicals.

“I knew him, I was the manager of Brighton when we tried to sign him. We had just got promotion to the Premier League. That would’ve been a wonderful opportunity first for him but also what was also a very multi-cultural that I had. He would’ve been the first Ghanaian in the squad,” said Chris Hughton.

Henry Asante, communications director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), disclosed there would be a minute of silence for the late striker after FIFA approved its request to do so.

Watch:

The match between Ghana and Madagascar will kick off at 4 p.m. with live radio commentary on Max 89.7 FM.
