The Chinese women’s football team’s coach Shui Qingxia has been fired on Monday by the football association of China for not leading the team to the Olympics in Paris the following year.
Just a few weeks ago, the former international player—the first woman to lead the Steel Roses—was awarded the 2022 Asian Football Confederation women’s coach of the year.
However, she has paid the price after supporters turned on the coach earlier this month, ending her attempt to qualify for Paris 2024.
“The contracts of the head coach and the original coaching team have automatically been terminated according to the agreement,” a Chinese Football Association statement read.
