2023 WWC: Super Falcons will go all-out against Australia

Date:

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles must avoid defeat as they take to the field against co-hosts Australia at the Brisbane Stadium on Thursday morning (today).

Randy Waldrum’s side started their campaign at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup with an impressive 0-0 draw against Canada.

Canada secured top position in the group with a 2-1 win against debutants Republic of Ireland on Wednesday.

The Canucks have four points from two games, Australia are on three points, while the Super Falcons are on one point.

For the Super Falcons to have any chance of scaling through to the Round of 16, they must avoid defeat against Australia.

The nine-time African champions will be boosted by the return of Rasheedat Ajibade and Halimat Ayinde for this crucial encounter.

The duo missed the game against Canada due to suspension.

Young midfielder, Deborah Abiodun is, however, suspended after she was sent off in the dying minutes of the game against Canada.

Australia will be without three key players for this game.

The Matildas won the only meeting between both teams 1-0 , at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup hosted by Canada.
