The head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana has expressed defiance over his criticized style of play.
It could be recalled that after Carlos Queiroz was named interim head coach of Ghana nearly 45 days to the 2026 World Cup, reports emanated from Egypt especially where he once managed, about his footballing style.
At the World Cup hosted by the United States of America, Mexico, and Canada, Ghana managed a single win over Panama to book a place in the round of 32.
To be absolutely frank, it was not pretty. However, most Ghanaians did not care because the Black Stars, since the 2010 World Cup had reached the knockout stages.
One result that caught the attention of millions around the globe was the famous goalless draw with England, which was celebrated by the four-time African champions as a World Cup trophy win.
Ahead of Ghana’s 2027 AFCON qualifier against the Ivory Coast on Thursday, the Mozambican-born Portuguese gaffer said nothing matters except for winning.
“My style of football is the winning style. I never saw coaches lose their job because of style. They lose their job because they don’t win. Winning makes the style. Winning makes the fashion. That’s the law of the game.”
Carlos Queiroz will lead the Black Stars of Ghana for the first time against Ivory Coast away in Bouake since having been reappointed for a permanent role.
