Jose Peseiro, the head coach of Nigeria, announced his decision to leave at the end of his contract and maintains it has been “a privilege” to be a part of the Super Eagles “family.”
After the Portuguese player surpassed expectations and guided his team to the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) final last month, where they were defeated by the hosts Ivory Coast, there was a great deal of doubt about his future.
He wrote on X, saying, “It was a pride and honour to coach the Super Eagles. It has been 22 months of immense dedication, sacrifice, emotion, and enormous enthusiasm.
The 63-year-old concluded by extending “a big hug to everyone” after expressing gratitude to the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and his players, stating that it had been “a great pleasure” to lead them.
