Former player for the Nigerian Super Eagles, Emmanuel Amuneke, has stated that he is prepared to take over as head coach of the team should the chance arise.
After Nigeria was defeated by tournament hosts Ivory Coast on Sunday, February 11, 2024, in the 2023 AFCON final, there has been talk in Nigeria regarding Jose Peseiro’s future.
With the Portuguese’s contract expiring following the tournament, there have been calls for him to be replaced by a Nigerian.
Amuneke served as Austine Eguavoen’s assistant coach when Nigeria lost to Ghana in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying round.
“I am a Nigerian, all my life I have served Nigeria as a player. If Nigerians now find me fit to add value to the team, of course, it is a welcome development,” Amuneke said.
