Gilbert Ampiah, a standout athlete from St. Augustine’s College, has officially transitioned into para-athletics, securing his classification in the T44 sports class for high jump.
Ampiah is now gearing up for the 2025 Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan International Para Athletics Meeting in Marrakech, Morocco, where he will represent Ghana on the global stage.
This prestigious competition, set for April 24-26, 2025, serves as a qualifier for both the Commonwealth and Paralympic Games, and Ampiah is set to compete in the men’s high jump and long jump events. His participation marks a significant milestone in his athletic journey.
Samson Deen, President of the African Paralympic Committee, expressed confidence in Gilbert’s abilities. “We have so much trust in him that he will do well,” Deen told JoySports, reinforcing the faith in Ampiah’s potential.
Gilbert’s achievements are impressive, including a 1.60m high jump at Ekumfi Atwa in 2023, where he outperformed able-bodied athletes. He also set a personal best of 1.82m during the St. Augustine’s inter-house competition, further solidifying his reputation as a rising star in para-athletics.
Gilbert Ampiah’s journey is a testament to perseverance and excellence, and the 2025 Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan Para Athletics Meeting is poised to be the next chapter in his remarkable career.
