The senior Communications Manager for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Sheikh Tophic Sienu, has disclosed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports under the leadership of Hon. Mustapha Ussif, was against the appointment of Nora Häuptle.
The Swiss national, Häuptle, was appointed head coach of the Black Queens of Ghana in January 2023 after previously serving as the technical advisor for the Black Princesses at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica in 2022.
In recent times, the coach has been rumored to have accepted the head coach role of the Copper Queens of Zambia after refusing to pen a new deal offered by the GFA.
Häuptle has been left unimpressed by the inadequate support shown to her team as they prepare for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Though insisting her contract with Ghana is yet to expire, Sheikh Tophic revealed the Ministry of Youth and Sport was initially not in support of her appointment despite her contributions to the Black Princesses, preferring a local coach instead.
