Ghanaian media personality and entrepreneur, Afua Asantewaa, who attempted to break the Guinness world record for the longest individual singing marathon, has finally ended with a record of 5 days, 6 hours, and 52 minutes.
The broadcast journalist and mother of three has been performing hundreds of Ghanaian songs back-to-back since midnight on Sunday, December 24, 2024.
On Thursday, December 27, 2023, she exceeded the record held by Sunil Waghmare, an Indian, who sang for 105 hours in March 2012.
She has so far completed 126 hours, which has raised the bar.
The euphoria was still high at the Akwaaba Village in Accra until she couldn’t continue anymore, which eventually had to end with a record of singing for 5 days, 6 hours, and 52 minutes.
Fans and dignitaries from all backgrounds continue to commend her resilience and exceptionality.
While addressing the public after her remarkable feat, Afua Asantewaa expressed gratitude to everyone who supported her, including those who showed up at the Akwaaba Village and those who could not.
“At a point, I kept asking which day it was, and I finally got to know that today is Friday. On behalf of my family, team, volunteers, the media, and the Ghana Tourism Authority, I would like to say thank you to everyone who participated in this attempt; it has been a smooth journey and a very successful one,” she noted.
