NSA Director General Denies Boxing Ban Reports

Date:

Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has refuted reports that his outfit has issued a ban on boxing.

There have been widespread unconfirmed reports of the NSA imposing a ban on boxing in Ghana following the untimely death of popular boxer Bahubali on Tuesday, September 23.

Responding to these reports, Mr Ampofo Ankrah, former Head of Sports of IMAX Media, disclosed he had no idea where such reports had been concocted from, while suspecting mischief by the ones who generated them.

“We have not released any statement. I think there is a little bit of mischief here because in the wake of the unfortunate death of the young boxer [Bahubali],” he said on Max FM’s Sports Pack.

He continued, urging the public not to follow unauthorised social media postings and speculations which suggest the opposite stance of the NSA.

“At the risk of following social media posts and speculations, we may be tempted to jump to conclusions,” he added in his interview with Nana Darkwa Gyasi on Thursday, September 25.

In the meantime, a message of condolence has been released by the NSA to the family of the deceased boxer and the boxing fraternity as a whole.

An official autopsy will inform the NSA on the way forward since it has the administrative control of the Ghana Boxing Authority till a substantive president is elected.
