#RipJoeLartey: Celebrated sports commentator dies aged 96

Date:

Legendary sports commentator Joe Lartey has passed away at age 96.

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) broke the news of the passing of its first president.

Joe Lartey began his education at the Accra Royal School before attending the Government Senior Boys School in Kinbu after a brief time in Tamale.

He enrolled at the Accra Academy School in 1944 after completing middle school in 1943.

‘Over to you, Joe Lartey,’ a phrase that became synonymous with the iconic man himself during his glorious times with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) from 1961 to 1973.

He moved to Lagos for 12 years after endeavoring in private business and engaging in political movements before rejoining the GBC in 1990.
