‘Return Diplomatic Passports by March 17 or Face Sanctions’ – Foreign Affairs Ministry

Date:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned that holders of diplomatic and service passports must return them by March 17, 2025, or face cancellation and seizure. Those who fail to comply will be placed on a Stop-List, preventing travel with these passports at Ghana’s entry and exit points.

This final directive, issued on March 10, 2025, follows an earlier order from President John Dramani Mahama, who initially set January 24, 2025, as the deadline. However, many have not complied, with 404 Diplomatic Passports and 357 Service Passports still unreturned.

The affected individuals include former ministers, MPs, regional ministers, MMDCEs, Council of State members, retired judges, ex-security personnel, and private individuals no longer in qualifying public roles.

The Ministry has emphasized that after March 17, any attempt to use these passports will result in immediate seizure at all ports of entry and exit.
