According to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Black Stars have qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The Black Stars qualified for the World Cup on the away goal rule after a 1-1 tie with Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
Following the Black Stars’ qualifying, President Akufo-Addo, on Facebook, said: “Warm congratulations to the Senior National Football Team, the Black Stars, for their dogged display in Abuja, and qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.”
The President said that: “I am very proud of the team’s exploits. They have made the entire nation proud.”
The Black Stars took the lead in the 11th minute of the first half with a thunderbolt from distance from Arsenal wonderkid Thomas Partey.
In the 22nd minute, the Super Eagles equalized after a VAR check awarded them a penalty.
After 45 minutes, the Nigerians equalized with a spectacular penalty kick, tying the score at one apiece.
Despite the support of the home crowd, the Black Stars won the game in the second half.
Ghana qualified for the World Cup on away goals after a goalless draw in the first leg at the Baba Yara stadium.
Ghana will compete in the Fifa World Cup for the fourth time in Qatar.
