The head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, Otto Addo, has expressed eagerness to have more local players integrated into the squad.

In his latest squad call-up for the two upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September, Benjamin Asare is the only local player named.

During a chat with Max TV’s Prince Annang at the Nsekyire Stadium, Coach Addo praised the local talents on display at the 2025 Nsekyire Cup.

He bemoaned the mass exodus of exciting local talents, citing the transfer of African Games gold medallist Jerry Afiyie, who starred for lower league side Thoughts FC.

“I am looking forward to integrating local players into the national team,” said Coach Addo, despite the low representation of home-based players in the squad.

At the Unity Cup in May 2025, two home-based stars from the Ghana Premier League were given the golden chance to justify their inclusion in the team.

Kamaradini Mahamudu (Medeama SC) and Kwame Opoku (Asante Kotoko) made their debuts for the Black Stars, while Benjamin Asare (Hearts of Oak) and Razack Simpson (Nations FC) had already become regulars.

He assures of more opportunities to come for the inclusion of some of the best local talents into the team after the World Cup qualification rounds.
