The National Sports Authority (NSA) and Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) have agreed to work in tandem for the rise of boxing in Ghana.
Following the controversial resignation of Abraham Neequaye as the president of the GBA, in the days leading to the impending Congress and Elections, scheduled for July 12 and 16, a newly constituted board was set up till a substantive president is elected.
Roger Barnor (acting President), Lord Acquaye (Treasurer), Shadrack Acquaye (acting Secretary), Carl Lokko, Alhaji Murtala Tofiki and Michael Neequaye (elected members), Nii Gonti, Michael “Golden Mike” Tetteh (co-opted member), Dr Eric Tetteh (Medical Officer), Lawyer Sam Laryea (Legal Advisor), and Andrew Nortey (Communications Officer) make up the board.
In a meeting between the NSA and GBA on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium, both sides are hoping for a swift implementation of the recommendations by the seven-member committee probe into boxing in Ghana, especially after the death of a Nigerian boxer at the Bukom Boxing Arena on March 29, 2025.
The NSA boss, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, assured the boxing fraternity during the meeting that his objective is mainly to ensure a cleanup of the discipline in Ghana, acting on the Ministerial Committee’s recommendations.
