A bus smuggling over 1,000 ammunition to Savelugu in the northern part of Ghana has been intercepted at the Asankere Barrier.
The bus, a Kia Granbird registered AK 1309–21, had 1,050 AAA and BB cartridge ammunition.
The police at the barrier in the Ashanti Region arrested two occupants—Mohammed Gzali [42], the driver, and his assistant, Mohammed Jabir [22].
Upon inspection of the bus, which also carried 45 passengers, officers on duty roped in the Divisional Commander, who arrived with the Juaso District Commander and the Juaso District Crime Officer.
The driver, Mr Gzali, revealed to the police that an unidentified person brought the sack to be delivered to one Oboye in Tamale.
