Musician Rema donates N105m to Christ Embassy Church

Date:

Popular Nigerian musician Divine Ikubor, known in the entertainment arena as Rema, has donated a sum of N105 million to Christ Embassy Church, Benin City, Edo State branch.

The donation is to help the church in its work to advance the ministry of God and to help the widows and the elderly who have contributed meaningfully to the growth of the church.

Rema made the donation during the celebration of Edo@33 to usher in the groundbreaking ceremony of a 6,000-capacity Edo Dome.

The occasion also coincided with a musical concert at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium at the invitation of the state government.

Making the pledge, Rema said his offer was in appreciation to the church for supporting his family during their hardship times after his father passed away.

“And, I felt it was important to give back to the church that has embraced me, prayed for me and kept me very consistent with my spirit. When I was eight years old when I lost my dad, we felt very lost and abandoned.

“All that time everything was taken from us and we felt alone, and I remember at the time Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church; they opened a shop for my mom, and that was what she managed to take care of and feed us,” he stated.

Based on that, he also donated handsomely for the widows to fast-track their lives.

“And just to add to that, if there is any widow in church today, I am pledging N20 million to assist all the widows in attendance,” he added.

The “Calm Down” hitmaker first pledged a sum of N40 million to the infrastructural development of the church and N20 million to the Rhapsody of Realities publication.

“Being a fact that I came from the teen church, I also like to pledge N25 million to the church,” he added.

Rema’s offer to the church has reshaped the conversation of secular musicians not doing the work of God and has also sparked a conversation of appreciation as well as the contributions of musicians towards the development of the church they grew from.
