Kumasi Asante Kotoko have beaten Golden Kick FC to win the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup in a dramatic fashion.
The David and Goliath clash came off at the University of Ghana Stadium on a cloudy Sunday, June 15, 2025, as Ghana Premier League’s Kotoko faced Access Bank Division One League’s Golden Kick.
Kotoko displayed dominance in the first 15 minutes of the game as goal-poacher Kwame Opoku, at the opportune moment, headed home the first goal for Kotoko.
Golden Kick refused to kick themselves for going behind as Bless Ege’s magical free-kick goal in the 31st minute restored much-needed parity for the neutral audience.
The first-half equaliser certainly had the Division One League team dreaming of one of the biggest upsets in the history of football in Ghana as they matched boot for boot with IFHHS African club of the 20th century.
With the game appearing to head into 30 minutes of extra time, centre referee Selorm Yao Bless made a controversial-looking call in the 90th minute. Goalkeeper Kelvin Kofi Saaba was adjudged to have fouled Kwame Opoku.
The budding striker stepped up to take the resulting penalty kick, clinching Kotoko’s tenth and his head coach, Karim Zito’s, second historic FA Cup title.
