Asante Kotoko defeated Benab FC 2-1 on Saturday to advance to the Round of 16 of the MTN FA Cup.
At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, defender Maxwell Agyemang scored late to give The Porcupine Warriors the victory.
The lower-tier team Benab FC gave the Ghanaian powerhouses a run for their money in a fiercely competitive match.
Benab’s Alhassan’s own goal in the 17th minute gave Kotoko the lead to start the game.
The Porcupine Warriors had a one-goal advantage going into halftime in the draw.
After the break, Benab FC dominated the game and were rewarded with an equalizer through Umar in the 69th minute.
The Division One team nearly added a second goal, but Kotoko goalie Frederick Asare stopped them.
In the 90th minute, a superb save by Benab’s goalie prevented Richmond Lamptey from being the day’s hero.
The Ghana Premier League champions won the match thanks to a goal from corner kick by Maxwell Agyemang with the game’s final shot.
In the Round of 16, Kotoko will wait for the opposition.
